Car, then foot chase ends with arrest of East St. Louis man
An East St. Louis man was arrested on Sunday and faces multiple charges stemming from a chase with Caseyville police on Friday.
Police say Aza K. Thompson fled from a traffic stop when officers pulled him over for not having a front registration plate. During the stop, police learned Thompson had a revoked license. When asked to step out of the vehicle, police say Thompson refused and drove away, striking a patrol car and narrowly missing an officer.
After a short chase with police, Thompson crashed his car and began running, but was ultimately taken into custody by officers. A search of his car yielded a handgun, police say.
The St. Clair County State Attorney’s Office charged Thompson with one charge of felon in possession of a firearm while on parole and two charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding police.
Thompson’s bail is set at $100,000.
