Two people were killed in a crash in Edwardsville following a police chase.

At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, the driver of a car being pursued by police crashed into a fuel tanker at the intersection of Illinois 111 and New Poag Road, according to a news release.

Multiple police departments were chasing the suspect, who was driving a stolen car. The suspect was wanted for questioning in a battery and mob action investigation.

The suspect ran a red light at the intersection and hit the side of a fuel tank trailer, according to the news release. The impact killed the driver and passenger, Rodney L. Williams, age 28, and Thomas C. Williams, age 21, both from Alton.

The road was closed until about 5:45 a.m. Thursday for crash reconstruction and hazardous material clean up, police said.
