Motorcyclist dies after crashing into semi, police say

A 41-year-old Collinsville man died Monday night after his motorcycle crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer truck in the 3300 block of Mississippi Avenue in Cahokia.

The motorcyclist, Jason M. Cowley, died at the scene of the accident, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye. He was pronounced dead at 9:17 p.m.

“He died from trauma to the neck and head,” Dye said.

“The accident happened south of the traffic light. The motorcyclist struck the side of a semi that was pulling off from the Phillips 66 oil refinery on Route 3,” Dye said.

The truck driver was not injured, Cahokia Police Chief David Landmann. confirmed.

Police did not issue any citations but continue to investigate the crash.

During the same time, Landmann said, an altercation broke out between two women at a parking lot next to where the vehicles crashed. One woman was arrested.

The chief said one of the women knew the motorcyclist, but did not provide additional details.
