A tractor trailer driver died Wednesday night after he drove his truck into a rest area, struck a tree and continued on to strike a parked semi.
The rest area is about six miles southeast of Mt. Vernon.
The trucker driver exited from westbound Interstate 64 into the Goshen Rest Area, according to a release from Illinois State Police. He failed to stop as he pulled into the parking lot and struck a tree.
His semi continued on and struck a parked semi, driving by 62-year-old Roosevelt Brown, of St. Louis. Police say Roosevelt’s semi was pushed into a third parked semi, driven by 48-year-old David Smith from El Paso, Texas.
Roosevelt suffered minor injuries and was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. Smith was uninjured.
The driver of the semi that ran into Roosevelt died. His identity has not been released pending family notification.
