A 20-year-old man was found innocent of failing to register as a sex offender by a jury Tuesday in St. Clair County.
Samuel Sargeant had been charged nearly a year ago with failing to renew as a sex offender in Shiloh, a requirement from a conviction in North Carolina when he was a minor, charges said.
Police told the BND at the time of the arrest that they did not know what Sargeant’s original conviction was for. Officials in Randolph County, North Carolina, do not comment on juvenile cases even if those juveniles are exonerated, a court clerksaid Thursday.
Sargeant’s attorney on record, Joslyn Anthony, did not return a call for comment.
