A crash involving two vehicles closed down parts of Illinois 161 and sent at least one man to the hospital early Thursday morning.
The crash happened at around 6:15 a.m. near the intersection of Illinois 161 and Dutch Hollow Road, according to Belleville Fire Department Chief Tom Pour. Police and firefighters had the scene cleared shortly after 7 a.m., Pour said.
The driver of one vehicle crossed into the middle of the roadway, sending the driver of another off into a ditch. Firefighters extricated the driver of the vehicle in the ditch and he was taken to a local hospital. The extent of the man’s injuries was not immediately available.
It was not clear if the driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital.
Traffic on westbound Illinois 161 was directed to a detour on Dutch Hollow Road during the lane closure.
Some lanes will continue to be closed near that intersection because of road construction, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Motorists should expect lane reductions on Illinois 161 from Dutch Hollow Road to Josephine Drive for road improvements until October 26.
