Cahokia youth, 12, charged in incident that left 8-month-old shot in the leg

A Juvenile has been charged in the shooting incident involving an 8-month old that occurred in early October.

A 12-year-old, who was not identified because of his age, was charged under the juvenile code by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s office with reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. No other details about what led to the shooting were released.

At about 1 p.m. Oct. 15, a call came in to the Cahokia Police Department reporting that a baby had been shot inside of a house in the 1100 block of George Street, Cahokia Police Capt. Dennis Plew said. The caller also said a juvenile was in the house and that individual may be the shooter.

When police arrived at the house, they found an 8-month old baby with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The baby was treated for the leg wound at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis.
