Multiple agencies were responding to a two-car crash on eastbound Illinois 15 near Belleville during rush hour on Thursday night.
Around 5:45 p.m., crews were called to the scene just east of Busch Boulevard for a vehicle accident with injuries, Belleville fire chief Tom Pour said. The large amount of debris from the crash prompted police to shut down all eastbound lanes of traffic.
Traffic had been backed up for half a mile at the time of the crash. The highway was reopened around 6:30 p.m., according to St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency.
