Hecker man stole items from tool and machine shop in New Athens, according to charges

A 32-year-old Hecker man stole items from a manufacturing tool and machining business in New Athens, according to charges filed Saturday in St. Clair County.

Matthew C. Rautman was accused of unlawfully entering Kaskaskia Tool and Machine and stealing items from the business at 107 S. Benton St.

Police responded to the business shortly after 10 p.m. on Nov. 21 to a report of a burglary in progress, according to a news release from New Athens police.

Police did not specify what was stolen from the business.

Rautman remained in the St. Clair County Jail as of Saturday afternoon. A judge set his bail at $40,000.

The St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Rautman with one county of burglary.
