Woman stabbed multiple times outside Fairview Heights hotel

A woman was stabbed multiple times Tuesday night outside the Wingate Hotel, according to police.

Officers later arrested two suspects in the stabbing, a man and a woman, at their home in Belleville. Fairview Heights police held them in custody Wednesday pending charges, according a news release from the department.

The suspects’ names were not released Wednesday morning.

The victim knew the man suspected in the attack, police said. After communicating with him on the phone earlier in the night, she met him in the parking lot of the hotel at 140 Ludwig Dr. sometime before 11:30 p.m., according to police. As the woman sat in the front seat of the man’s vehicle, another woman hiding in the back attacked her from behind.

The victim was stabbed in the face and shoulder, according to police. She was later transported to an area hospital and identified the suspects by name.

The woman’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.
