Will it rain on our parade? There’s a good chance

Rain is threatening to put a damper on the 49th annual Ainad Shriners Circus Parade on Main Street in Belleville.

According to the detailed forecast, there is a 30 percent chance of rain between 2-3 p.m. and a 40 percent chance of rain from 3-4 p.m. Then there is a break until right about the time the parade is supposed to start at 7:30 p.m.

There is a 35 percent chance of rain at 7 p.m., a 60 percent chance at 8 p.m. and a 65 percent chance at 9 p.m.

People were already setting up lawn chairs and claiming their spots early Friday morning to view the parade.

The parade is scheduled to set off from17th and West Main and proceed east on Main Street to 800 East Main. Spectators also can cheer on the participants in the Shriners Parade 5K Run, which starts at 6:30 p.m. on Main Street.

Circus performances are at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 and 7 p.m. Sunday at Belle-Clair Fairgrounds, 200 South Belt West in Belleville. Tickets are $14 adults, $10 children, and can be purchased at Hucks, Schnucks, MotoMarts and at the circus ticket window.

According to the Belleville Police Department, motorists should seek routes other than Main Street to get downtown later this afternoon and evening.

East Main Street will be closed from Douglas to Walnut streets beginning at 4:30 p.m. to allow set-up for the 5K race that precedes the parade.

The parade staging area on West Main Street from 17th to 20th streets will be shut down about 5 p.m., allowing participating groups to line up. West Main Street from 20th Street east will be shut down around 6:30 to allow for the start of the parade.
