Driver involved in early-morning crash near Millstadt

Rescue crews responded early Wednesday to a car accident on Illinois 158 in front of the Farmers Inn near Millstadt.

According to Columbia Fire Department reports, the crash happened at 5:52 a.m. on the stretch of highway between Millstadt and Columbia.

Initial reports indicated that the driver of a vehicle was trapped and unconscious. But when firefighters arrived they found that a motorist had simply run off the road and got stuck in the mud.

The motorist was not hurt. It was unclear what caused him to drive off the roadway.
