The Illinois Department of Transportation is scheduled to start construction work on Friday on the Martin Luther King Bridge.
Eastbound lanes are planned to be closed to all traffic from 8 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Monday, IDOT said.
Overnight closures are planned during next week as well.
Eastbound lanes are scheduled to be closed from 8 p.m. each evening to 6 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting, IDOT said.
Workers plan to install scaffolding in advance of the upcoming work to repair the bridge.
A marked detour will be in place to guide motorists around the work zone, IDOT said.
