Coroner releases ID of Collinsville man killed in house fire

Authorities on Saturday released the identity of a man whose body was found inside a home that burned in Collinsville.

The decedent is Jason G. Grant, 36, whose home on Spring Street burned Thursday night.

Madison County Coroner Steve Nonn said autopsy results indicate that Grant died of smoke inhalation and burns.

But Nonn said a precise cause of death will not be given until routine toxicological testing for alcohol and drugs, as well as testing to determine the man’s carbon monoxide level from the smoke inhalation, are completed. He said an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire also will be considered.

Grant’s body was found in the kitchen area.
