SIUE senior dies in ATV accident abroad, just short of graduation
A senior at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has died following an ATV accident in Greece.
Michael Peel, 24, was a Chicago native and a mass communications major in the College of Arts and Sciences. He also had a minor in business administration and was only a few credit hours short of graduation, the university wrote in an announcement Wednesday.
Peel was taking a semester off during the time of his death, according to SIUE. He was a member of the Iota Pi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The fraternity posted a tribute to Peel on its Facebook account last week.
In the post, the chapter wrote that Peel’s “spirit and energy would light up a room with his presence.”
SIUE said it would pass information regarding visitation and services for Peel along to students when it becomes available.
