A 25-year Washington Park patrolman who recently retired has been charged with stalking a former girlfriend and damaging property at the police department during a confrontation with her.
St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly on Thursday charged the former patrolman, 52-yearold Kevin McAfee, with four felonies: official misconduct, stalking and two counts of criminal damage to property.
McAfee was taken into custody Thursday morning and released after posting $2,000 cash for bond.
McAfee has been in a dispute with the former girlfriend, Candice Lyles, over the paternity of a child.

The charges allege that he stalked and caused personal distress to her. He also is accused of damaging a phone and a door frame at the Washington Park Police Department during a confrontation with Lyles on May 6. Lyles is a dispatcher at the department.
Lyles was granted an emergency order of protection against McAfee on May 7. She went to court on May 13 for a plenary order of protection, which is valid for two years. A St. Clair County judge on May 13 issued a two-year protective order for Lyles.
The subject of an order of protection is prohibited from having a gun.
Kelly said his office has prosecuted 24 public figures on official misconduct charges in the last four years.
