Semi truck crashes into lake near Highland, Illinois State Police say

Illinois State Police is investigating after a tractor-trailer truck crashed on Interstate 70 and found itself partially submerged in Silver Lake near Highland.

At 11:23 a.m., the truck, which was not carrying a trailer, was eastbound on I-70 when it crossed the center median and entered the westbound lane, state police spokesman Trooper Josh Korando said. The front end of the truck went into the lake.

The driver of the truck was not injured and there were no cars around the crash at the time, Korando said. Police shut down the right lane of the westbound lane for about 2 hours. It was reopened by 3 p.m.
