Columbia firefighters find man’s body in home
Columbia firefighters found the body of a man in burning home on Thursday but the victim’s name has not been released, the Monroe County Coroner’s Office reported Friday.
Coroner Bob Hill pronounced the man dead at 9:35 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters were battling a fire at a home in the 1000 block of North Main Street when they found the body, Hill said in a news release.
Once positive identification is made, the victim’s name and cause of death will be released, Hill said.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal also is investigating the man’s death.
