Chopper lands on Cahokia road to airlift man trapped in wreckage for 90 minutes
A helicopter landed on a busy Cahokia road Saturday morning to evacuate a man who had been trapped for 90 minutes in his SUV that had flipped over in a crash, Cahokia police said.
The 63-year-old man’s condition was not immediately available but Officer Troy DeRossett said the victim was conscious when he was flown from the intersection of Camp Jackson Road and Doris Avenue.
DeRossett said officers have not been able to reach the man’s relatives so he could not release the man’s name.
The man was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer southeast on Doris Avenue, crossed Camp Jackson and crashed into a metal pole, DeRossett said. The police department received a call for help at 6:50 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation and no citations were immediately issued.
The Cahokia Fire Department and several other fire departments responded to the scene.
