New Life Community Church in East St. Louis is celebrating its 15th anniversary by holding an designed to empower women.
The event, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Friday, is called “HIding Behind The Lipstick.”
Kendall Granger, pastor of New Life Community Church said the event “seeks to help women to identify their lipstick and remove the masks —letting go of the things that keep them bound so they able to live free.”
Granger said Myesha Chaney, star of the TV show Preachers of LA, is the “visionary behind this celebrated, uplifting night of praise and worship, spoken word and dance.”

Chaney is from Long Beach, Calif. Her show is on the Oxygen network. Chaney is a pastor’s wife, mother, motivational speaker, worship leader recording artist, entrepreneur and former radio personality.
Since 2009, Chaney, using “Hiding Behind The Lipstick,” has worked to empower and encourage women to rediscover who they are and to no longer conform to the pressures of what others think they should be.
“Somehow we have allowed life to mold and shape us to a point that we have lost touch of who we really are deep inside,” Chaney said.
Chaney’s book, also titled “Hiding Behind The Lipstick,” will be available for purchase at the event.
Doors to the church, which is located at 1919 State St., will open at 6:30 p.m.
