Drivers airlifted from head-on Illinois 159 crash with non-life threatening injuries

Two people were airlifted from the scene of a two-car, head-on crash Friday night in Monroe County, authorities said Saturday.

Stefan D. Bauer, 21, of Red Bud, and Amanda N. Johnson, 26, of Millstadt were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to a release of preliminary information from Illinois State Police.

At around 10:46 p.m. Friday, Bauer was driving on Illinois 159 just south of Sunset Lane, between Hecker and Red Bud, when state troopers believe his car left the road and he over-corrected into oncoming traffic. His pickup truck hit the car Johnson was driving head-on.

Additional information was not immediately available Saturday afternoon.
