Glen Carbon man airlifted after car strikes him on Illinois 159

A Glen Carbon man was in the hospital after he was hit by a car on Illinois 159 on Tuesday.

At 8:20 p.m., police were called to the 4200 block of the state route in response to the crash, Glen Carbon Police Lt. Wayne White said Wednesday afternoon. There, first responders found the pedestrian, a 31-year-old man.

The man was transported to Anderson Hospital in Maryville initially, then airlifted to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. In a release, White said the man’s identity will not be released “out of respect for his and his family’s privacy.” His condition was unknown Wednesday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the man was found and interviewed by investigators, White said. The driver’s identity is not being released because the investigation is ongoing.

Traffic crash reconstruction experts responded to the scene and were conducting a forensic analysis of the crash Wednesday evening. According to the release, police will coordinate with the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed in the case.

“No other information will be made available until the full investigation is completed,” White said.
