Interstate 55 northbound lanes reopen after early morning accident in Madison County
Northbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Illinois Route 4 in Madison County were closed for several hours after an accident involving two tractor-trailers early Wednesday, Illinois State Police said.
The route opened back up about 9 a.m., but traffic was moving slowly.
The accident happened at 5:41 a.m. at Milepost 33.
““One truck-tractor semi-trailer has overturned and is on its side,” said Trooper Joshua Korando.
Korando did not know whether the drivers were injured.
Traffic was diverted onto Illinois Route 4, Korando said.
Korando was advising motorists to use alternate routes and avoid the crash area.
