Cahokia man killed when his pickup strikes a utility pole and tree in Centreville

A Cahokia man was killed Wednesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving slammed into a utility pole then struck a tree on Bond Avenue in Centreville.

Leon White Jr., 30, was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:45 a.m., said St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Detective DeMarius Thomas of the Centreville Police said the blue Ford F-150 was traveling west on Bond Avenue at a high rate of speed when it collided with the pole then the tree. It came to rest on its side on top of a tree.

A Centreville police officer drove up on the crash scene at 4:54 a.m., Thomas said.
