Woman killed in collision with semi on Interstate 64 near Nashville
A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Thursday night involving a tractor-trailer truck in Washington County.
The woman’s identity has not been released, pending the notification of family, Illinois State Police say. The crash occurred at 8:30 p.m. on westbound Interstate-64 near mile marker 58, approximately three miles west of Nashville.
Illinois State Police say they were told by a witness that the woman was driving at an “excessively high rate of speed” in a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu. She struck the left rear corner of the semi truck, a 2015 five-axle Kenworth, which was driving in the left lane to pass a slower driver.
The impact caused the woman’s car into the center median, where it flipped multiple times, according to ISP. She was ejected from the Malibu and pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County coroner.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Jeffery Smith, 50, of The crash, was uninjured. State Police continue to investigate the crash, but no citations were issued.
