Repairs to leaking valves will cause water interruption, lane closures in Belleville

Illinois American Water has issued a traffic alert for Belleville for Wednesday and Thursday as crews work on repairing leaking valves in the area of South 74th and West Main streets.

Crews will be on site to work on the repairs, spokesperson Karen Cotton said in a release Wednesday. She emphasized the work is not related to coronavirus.

Detours will be available for drivers, the release stated.

The work will also briefly interrupt service to 50 customers in the area, Cotton said. Illinois American Water had notified those customers directly about the interruption and the boil order that will be issued once water service is restored. The company will also provide affected customers with bottled water to help decrease inconvenience.

Illinois American Water asked people to not approach the crews as they work on the repairs and to practice social distancing guidelines recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
