Severe weather could hit southwestern Illinois and across the Midwest on Saturday

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook Friday for southwestern Illinois.

Severe storms could bring large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes on Saturday afternoon across a wide region of the Midwest.

Clinton, Madison, Monroe, Randolph, St. Clair and Washington counties in the metro-east could be affected.

Showers and thunderstorms were likely after 1 p.m. Saturday. There is a 70% chance of precipitation. Wind gusts could reach as high as 28 mph.

The chance of precipitation changes to 50% before 10 p.m. Saturday, when wind gusts could still reach as high as 26 mph.

Sunday’s forecast looks windy but sunny with a high near 67.
