Police say Fairview Heights mother chased, stabbed daughter and family dog

Fairview Heights Police say a woman has been arrested for stabbing her daughter and family dog with a knife Wednesday.

Police said officers responding on Brittany Drive Wednesday around 7:45 a.m. encountered a woman with a knife chasing her daughter down the street. Officers quickly took the mother into custody.

Police said the 20-year-old daughter had lacerations on both arms and a stab wound on her back. She was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said they also found the family’s dog had been stabbed. The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.

The 52-year-old mother, who is not being identified pending formal charges, was suffering from a mental health crisis after not taking prescribed medicine, police said.

She was taken to an area hospital for mental health treatment.
