Edwardsville police warn residents of scammers impersonating police, seeking donations

Edwardsville Police are warning residents of a potential scam involving someone impersonating members of the police department over the phone.

The department posted on Facebook Thursday that several residents had been contacted by an individual claiming to be from the police department, requesting a monetary donation. According to police, the scammer then asks for Social Security and credit card numbers.

Police are warning residents to give no personal information out if they receive a call like this.

“Please use caution when providing any personal information over the phone and/or computer,” the statement read.
