Here’s who just became the newest alderman on the Belleville City Council

When residents in Belleville’s Ward 2 meet their new alderman, they will see a familiar last name.

Dave Pusa Sr. has been appointed to fill the remainder of his late wife Jane Pusa’s term on the City Council. This term expires in May 2021.

Jane Pusa died last month after an illness following a brain tumor operation last year. She was 74.

The City Council voted unanimously Monday night to accept Mayor Mark Eckert’s appointment of Dave Pusa to fill the vacant Ward 2 seat.

Dave Pusa, 74, said in thinking about what his wife would want him to do, he thought she would say, “Go do your job.”

And that’s his plan. To the residents of Ward 2, Pusa said, “I’ll try to help you when I can.”

Pusa said he’s not sure whether he would run for the position in the April 2021 election.

Pusa was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 30 years and is a former electrical inspector for the city.

“He and Jane really tackled that together in so many ways,” Eckert said of the Ward 2 position. “He would come to most meeting with her, and Dave’s a natural fit.”

Eckert said Dave Pusa will fill the same committee positions that Jane Pusa held.
