East St. Louis Police investigating man’s shooting death

A man died after a shooting at the John DeShields housing complex in East St. Louis on Saturday.

Officers were sent to the complex at 6:30 p.m. after reports of gunshots and a man down, said East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson.

“When officers arrived on scene at 1235 McCasland Ave., they found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body,” he said.

The man, who was not identified by police, died at St. Louis University Hospital.

Patterson said Illinois State Police are assisting East St. Louis Police in the homicide investigation.
