Sparta man killed, another injured in head-on collision in Centreville

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. released the identity of a Sparta man killed in a traffic crash in Centreville Sunday night.

David Louis, 56, of the 8500 block of Valley Steel Road, was pronounced dead at 9:49 p.m., a little more than two hours after his car collided head on with another in the 7900 block of Lake Drive in Centreville.

The other driver, a 61-year-old man whose name was not released, was taken to a St. Louis hospital with unspecified injuries.

Centreville Detective Jamal Jackson said police were called to the scene at 7:21 p.m. When officers arrived, ”we found a two-car traffic crash with head on impact,” Jackson said.

Jackson said one vehicle was a 1989 Oldsmobile 98 and the other was a 2010 Chrysler 300.

No other information has been released, pending the ongoing investigation.
