Multiple departments responding to fire at magnesium factory in Venice

Multiple crews were on the scene of a fire at a magnesium factory in Venice on Thursday afternoon.

The fire began around 4 p.m. at Magnesium Elektron, KMOV 4 reported. Multiple buildings at the site were affected. The large cloud of black smoke could be seen across the river in St. Louis.

Magnesium Elektron is located at 1001 College Street.

According to FOX 2, the plant has caught fire before.

In October 2010, the company was sued by state environmental regulators after a fire, the report stated. The regulators claimed the fire threatened the health of nearby residents.

The state and Magnesium Elektron later settled and the company paid a $50,000 fine.

This is a breaking story. More information will be reported as it becomes available.
