Highland man killed walking on Interstate-70, Illinois State Police say

A Highland man parked his car in an interstate median and was killed when he walked into the path of a truck, Illinois State Police reported Friday night.

Larry J. Jones, 62, was pronounced dead at about 5:30 p.m. on westbound Interstate-70 near milepost 32.3, in Bond County just east of the Madison County line.

The incident is being probed by an Illinois State Police criminal investigation unit as well as commercial vehicle enforcement officers, according to a release.

State police say Jones’ car had no apparent damage, yet he parked in the center median, where it became stuck in mud. Jones exited the car and stepped into the path of a Volvo five-axle truck tractor combination driven by Dilshod Kholimov, 29, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

It was not immediately clear why Jones parked his car.

No additional information will be released pending the continuing investigation, state police said.
