Southern Illinois man dies, woman injured when Jeep hits deer

A 25-year-old Greenville man died and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash on Sunday when a Jeep collided with a deer in Bond County, Illinois State Police said in a news release.

Lincoln Siebert died in the crash that occurred at 4:28 a.m. on Illinois 140 at Mill Hill Road, according to a preliminary police report.

Another person in the Jeep, Tess Lohman, 28, of Greenville was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police have not determined who was driving the Jeep. Both people were ejected from the vehicle.

The Jeep was going east on Illinois 140 west of Mill Hill Road when it struck a deer in the roadway, swerved, collided with a guardrail and overturned, according to a preliminary investigation.

The Illinois Department of Transportation’s latest statistics for crashes involving deer show that eight people died in deer-related crashes statewide in 2018. There were 15,635 crashes involving deer that year.
