Police seek public’s help in identifying human remains found in Washington Park

Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying human remains found June 4 in Washington Park.

The body is described as that of a black man between the ages of 50 and 75, standing between 5 feet and 5-foot-6, state police said in a press release Friday.

He was wearing a Spiderman pajama-type shirt, the release said.

The badly decomposed remains were found in a secluded, heavily wooded area of northern Washington Park. Washington Park Police called the lllinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 to investigate.

Washington Park Police Chief Allen Bonds said street department workers were in the area of 48th Street and Hill Avenue when they came across what they believed was a human body part about 9 a.m.

“They called me over and when I looked at it I agreed it was a human body part,” Bonds said.

He called state police.

“When State Police came out they found other remains 15-20 feet from where street department workers made the first discovery,” Bonds said.

The remains were taken to a forensic pathologist for examination, and the findings were returned to investigators Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact state police at (618) 301-6764 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-8477.
