Madison woman faces life-threatening injuries after car she was in strikes light pole

A Madison woman faces life-threatening injuries after the car she was a passenger in struck a light pole on Tuesday night.

Amber Murphy, 40, was taken to a local hospital following the accident on Interstate 55/70 at Illinois 203 around 10:30 p.m., a news release from the Illinois State Police District 11 stated.

According to the release, Murphy was riding in a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Charles Thomas, 32, of Granite City, when the vehicle left the road to the right for unknown reasons and struck the pole. Thomas was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation, the release stated. No further information was released.
