Police, task force investigating death of 4-year-old in East St. Louis

Police are investigating the death of a 4-year-old in East St. Louis.

The St. Clair County Child Death Task Force is also involved in the investigation, East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson confirmed.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said the child was pronounced dead at 6:05 a.m. Wednesday.

Patterson said police can only confirm the ongoing investigation.

“We have just begun an investigation and do not know any details we can report at this time. The only thing we can tell you at this point is we are looking into how this child died,” Patterson said.

Police located the child in a residence in the 1800 block of Winstanley.

This is a developing story. More details will be reported as they become available.
