Cahokia Police investigate the apparent drowning of a 1-year-old Centreville boy

Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old Centreville boy who apparently drowned in a pool in Cahokia.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said the boy was pronounced dead at 6:15 p.m. Friday. The cause of death appears to be drowning, Dye said. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.

Cahokia Police Lt. Ben Callahan said police were called to Goodman Street at 4:09 p.m.

“When officers arrived they located a small child who appeared to have drowned. MedStar was called. They tried to save his life but were unsuccessful,” Callahan said.

Callahan said he did not know whether the little boy was still in the pool when police arrived.

The boy’s identity was not released.
