Two lanes of I-55 near Edwardsville closed following crash that hospitalized two

Illinois State Police have blocked off one lane of traffic in each direction on Interstate 55 near Edwardsville following a crash in which a person was hit by a tractor-trailer.

Around 1:30 p.m., a pickup truck pulling a trailer pulled over to the side of the road on northbound I-55 and the driver got out of the car, a news release from state police stated. The driver, Curt A. Kruckerberg, 58, of Edwardsville, was standing between the pickup and the trailer when a tractor-trailer sideswiped the pickup truck and struck him.

Kruckerberg was airlifted to an area hospital with non-lifethreatening injuries.

According to state police, the tractor-trailer then overturned. Its driver, Guy M. Lang, 53, of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, was taken by ambulance to a hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries. He was cited for a violation of Scott’s Law — which requires drivers to change lanes if they approach emergency and disabled vehicles on the shoulder — and for improper lane use.

“The identities of the drivers, as well as traffic updates, will be released when it becomes available,” the release from state police stated.
