14-year-old girl dies in Randolph County rollover crash

A 14-year-old girl died Sunday in a rollover crash in Randolph County, according to Illinois State Police.

Two other girls were taken to a hospital because of the crash: a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old.

The crash is still under investigation. Illinois State Police released details from its preliminary investigation in a statement Sunday afternoon.

State police said the 15-year-old girl was driving. She lost control of the car in gravel. The car left the road at Moffet Road near Valley Steel Road in Randolph County and overturned around 1:20 p.m. Sunday, according to the agency’s statement.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. She was from Culter, a village in Perry County.

The 15-year-old was ejected from the car. She was flown to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 5-year-old was taken to a hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Both girls are from Coulterville, according to state police.

The 15-year-old received several traffic citations from Illinois State Police.
