The highest earner at the university in 2019, the latest figures available, was Chancellor Randy Pembrook who was paid $340,126, according to records provided to the BND from the university through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Pembrook is the college’s ninth chancellor and received a four-year extension to his contract in 2019.

According to the Chronicle of Higher Education’s database, Pembrook is the 234th highest paid college executive in the country based on his base pay.

The chronicle also reported the ratio of Pembrook’s total compensation to faculty salaries is 4 to 1.

School of Dental Medicine Dean Bruce Rotter was the second-highest earner employed by the university at $296,345, the records show.

The university’s provost and vice-chancellor of academic affairs, Denise Cobb, was third on the list with a salary of $244,442. Cobb was named to the position in 2017.

All of SIUE’s top 10 paid employees made over $200,000 in 2019, according to the data. In total, SIUE’s top 10 earners were paid a combined $2,176,652.

The BND’s Public Pay Database goes back to 2011 with information obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests. The salary information does not always include insurance or benefits. Some records include detailed information on overtime and other pay, while for some districts that information was not readily available.

The database includes worker compensation in most local governments, including cities, counties, townships, school districts and local colleges and universities. More pay records will be added as the BND receives salary data through open records requests.
