First some heat, then cooler temperatures to close the week

Two days of high temperatures in the 90s are expected give way to cooler weekend highs in the upper 70s.

It will be mostly sunny Wednesday with a high of 91. Overnight it will be partly cloudy with a low of 74.

The high will be 93 Thursday with a slight chance of thunderstorms during the day. A heat index of up to 101 is forecast, according to the National Weather Service. Thursday night the low will be 71 and the chance of thunderstorms will increase to 60 percent.

The extended forecast calls for much cooler temperatures by the weekend. The high Friday is expected to be 79 with a 70 percent chance of thunderstorms. Highs Saturday and Sunday are forecast to be 77 and 78 under sunny skies.

The cooling trend will carry into next week, with highs Monday and Tuesday around 80 and lows in the mid-60s.
