If you are looking for work in the surveyor field, Prairie Engineers of Columbia might have a spot for you soon.
The business expects to have several open jobs thanks to a new $7 million contract with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
According to Prairie Engineers Federal Market Lead Darren Forgy, the company will have new surveying positions in the metro-east market. These positions include experienced professional land surveyors, supervisory field survey technicians, surveying instrument operators, and entry-level survey technicians.
Forgy, the program manager under the newly awarded contract, said none of the positions with this contract have been posted. Overall, Forgy said the company expects to add four or five full-time positions and some temporary positions.
“They will be posted gradually over the next six months,” Forgy said. “A lot of what we’re looking for revolves around the surveying position.”
As an example, according to the company’s website, some of the essential functions of an entry-level survey technician include:
- Ability to travel, often on short notice, and work safely in various locations and all types of weather conditions.
- Perform field surveys including hydrographic, topographic, and boundary surveys using state-of-the-art equipment and methods.
- Perform and check office surveys, including reduction of field surveys, least squared and compass rule computations, and volume and area calculations.
- Conduct boundary research and prepare plats, plans, and legal boundary descriptions using CADD software.
- Maintain focus on project delivery and customer service with attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
