Investigators seek identity of body found at Cahokia Heights grain company

A man’s body was found at a grain company in Cahokia Heights on Thursday and authorities are trying to determine the identity of the person and the cause of death.

For now, that person is being referred to as “John Doe,” according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Dye said the body was found at the COFCO location at 195 American Grain St. near the Mississippi River.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:20 a.m., Dye said.

The Cahokia Height Police Department is investigating the case.

Detective DeMarius Thomas said the remains were badly decomposed and the cause of death is unknown.

Police were called after workers found the body, Thomas said.

A representative from COFCO could not immediately be reached for comment.
