Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle in Fairview Heights

One person is dead after being hit by a vehicle Monday night in Fairview Heights.

According to the Fairview Heights Police Department, officers responded to a traffic crash at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Illinois 161, just north of Old Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights. The crash was called in by the driver of the only vehicle involved, informing police that a pedestrian had been struck by her vehicle.

The pedestrian died at the scene, according to police.

The person’s identity has not yet been released pending the notification of family.

The driver of the vehicle was unharmed and later released after providing her account of what occurred. Police said they found no signs that the driver was impaired, but the cause remains under investigation.

The Metro East Crash Assistance Team responded to the scene to reconstruct the accident.
