The highest earner in 2020, the latest figures available, was Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs Denise Cobb, who was paid $253,340 according to records provided to the BND from the college through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Cobb was named the college’s provost in 2017 after serving as interim provost for two years.

Intercollegiate Athletics Director Timothy Hall was the second-highest earner employed by the college, bringing in $200,700, the records show. Hall was hired in 2019 after serving as the University of Maryland-Baltimore County’s director of athletics.

Associate Provost for Research and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research Jerry Weinberg was third on the list with a salary of $193,388.

The fourth-highest earner at the college in 2020 was SIUE men’s basketball Head Coach Brian Barone who earned $190,399.

The fifth-highest earner was Chancellor Randall Pembrook who earned $184,166. Pembrook, who is SIUE’s 10th chancellor, announced he will retire in 2022 earlier this year. He was named to the role in 2016.

The BND’s Public Pay Database goes back to 2011 with information obtained through Freedom of Information Act requests and public filings. The salary information does not always include insurance or benefits. Some records include detailed information on overtime and other pay, while for some districts that information was not readily available.

The database includes worker compensation in most local governments, including cities, counties, townships, school districts and local colleges and universities. More pay records will be added as the BND receives salary data through open records requests.
