Driving from Illinois to St. Louis this weekend? Avoid this interstate closure

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the two right lanes of the Poplar Street Bridge on I-55/64, including the Illinois 3 southbound ramp, in East St. Louis will be closed from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday July 29 — weather permitting.

All lanes of westbound Interstate 55 heading into St. Louis from Illinois will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through early Monday morning, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

The lanes will close at 9 p.m. from just west of the junction Interstates 64 and 70 to the Mississippi River, weather permitting. Construction should be completed by 5 a.m. Monday.

Motorists should seek alternate routes, the agency said.

Workers will be repairing pavement.
