Washington Park municipal building catches fire

A municipal building in Washington Park was engulfed in flames Tuesday afternoon.

The building at 5621 Forest Boulevard housed the police and fire departments as well as the streets and sewer departments and code enforcement.

By 3 p.m. the building was fully involved in fire. Flames could be seen coming through the collapsed roof of the building and black smoke can be seen billowing for miles around.

Firefighters from French Village, Caseyville, Fairmont City, State Park, Villa Hills, Prairie Du Pont and Madison have responded.
