There’s a special lighted parade in downtown Belleville Friday. Here are the details
The Ainad Shriners of Southern Illinois are holding a Lighted Parade on Friday in downtown Belleville.
The parade will start at 7:30 p.m. at North 3rd and West A streets, then proceed west on A Street. The route will turn left on 6th Street, left on West Washington Street to 3rd Street and towards West Main Street. From there, the parade will turn right on West Main Street and proceed toward the fountain and continue on East Main Street to Forest Avenue.
This parade is being held to make up for the Shriners’ spring parade, which was canceled due to COVID, according to Shriners member Mike Koeneman.
The themes for the parade are “Cartoons” and “Fairy Tales,” according to an event post on the Ainad Shriners Facebook page.
There will be first, second and third place trophies for floats in each category as well as an award for the best overall float from the Potentate, the Facebook post. stated.
According to the parade application, floats will be judged based on the following:
Theme and Adherence: Up to 30 points for theme emphasis, imagination, simplicity, clarity of expression and adherence to theme
Eye Appeal: Up to 10 points
Balance: Up to 10 points for overall balance where bulkiness, barren spots and overloaded construction are concerned
Color Combination: Up to 10 points for having a complementary contrasting color scheme
Workmanship and Materials: A combined five points for workmanship and five points for materials.
Extra Attractive: Up to 10 points for uniqueness, animation or other crowd appeal qualities
Bonus Points: Up to 20 points for crowd response as the float passes the judging stand along the parade route
